Silicone keypads.

A keypad is what people touch every time they use your product. The feel of every key, the legibility of every legend and the seal around the edge all come from the moulding.

The detail

Feel is designed, not luck

The click of a silicone key comes from a thin web under the key collapsing at a set force. Change the web and you change the feel. We tune web geometry and material hardness together to get the response you want.

Around that we design the mat: key heights, spacing, the skirt that seals to your panel, and the contact pills or carbon printing that make the circuit.

How we run it

How we develop a keypad

  1. Feel sampling

Sample keys at different forces so you can choose by hand.

  2. Mat design

Key layout, skirt and sealing features around your panel.

  3. Tooling and first articles

Keypads moulded, printed and checked for force and legend quality.

  4. Batch production

Force checks on samples from each batch.

Questions

What people usually ask.

Can keys be backlit?

Yes. See backlit keypads.

How long do printed legends last?

It depends on the ink, coating and use. For heavy use, we recommend a protective coating or laser-etched legends.

Backlit keypads

A backlit key needs light to pass through the legend and nowhere else. That takes translucent silicone, opaque coatings and careful control…

Tactile domes and buttons

Some products have one button. It might be the only part of the product people deliberately touch. It has to feel exactly right.

Rough annual volume, target unit price, and any deadlines. That's enough to work out whether compression, LSR injection or something else is the right tool.
