Gaskets and seals · Bespoke gaskets

Bespoke gaskets and seals.

Some seals don't fit any category. A seal that wraps a corner, locates on pegs, seals two faces and doubles as a cushion. Those are the seals we enjoy most.

The detail

Designed around the housing

Bespoke seals usually come from product designers who have run out of space. The seal has to do several jobs in a tight envelope, and a standard part won't fit.

We work from your housing CAD, suggest a seal geometry that can be moulded and demoulded cleanly, and prototype it before steel. It's often the most engineering-heavy work we do, and the most satisfying.

Examples of bespoke seals

Enclosure seals with features

Seals with locating pegs, pull tabs and moulded-in labels.

Multi-face seals

One part sealing a lid and a cable entry at once.

Boots and covers

How we run it

How we develop them

  1. Housing review

We look at the whole assembly, not just the seal.

  2. Seal concept

A mouldable geometry proposed with parting line and demould path.

  3. Prototype round

Parts from a prototype tool tested in your housing.

  4. Production tool

Compression or LSR, depending on volume and finish.

Questions

What people usually ask.

Will you design the seal for us?

Yes, we'll propose a geometry and refine it with your team. You own the resulting design for your product.

How many prototype rounds are normal?

One or two for most bespoke seals. Complex multi-function seals sometimes take three.

A lip seal works by flexing against a moving surface. The quality of that lip — its thickness, angle and edge — decides whether it seals,…

Rough annual volume, target unit price, and any deadlines. That's enough to work out whether compression, LSR injection or something else is the right tool.
