Gaskets and seals · O-rings

O-rings.

The simplest seal there is, and the one most often specified wrongly. We supply custom O-rings, and we'll tell you when a standard one would do.

The detail

Start with the groove

Most O-ring problems are groove problems: too much squeeze, too little, a groove that's too full when the ring swells in fluid. Before we quote a ring, we like to see the housing.

Where the housing is right and a standard size fits, buy standard. Where it isn't, or the compound, colour or paperwork needs to be specific, we mould custom rings — usually by compression, occasionally by injection at very high volume.

How we run it

How an O-ring order runs

  1. Groove and fluid review

We check squeeze, stretch and fill against the compound.

  2. Compound and colour

Chosen for the environment, coloured for identification if helpful.

  3. Mould and deflash

Multi-cavity compression, cryogenic deflash for a clean parting line.

  4. Measure and pack

Size checked per batch, counted and bagged with the batch label.

Questions

What people usually ask.

Do you stock standard O-rings?

No. We're a manufacturer, not a distributor. For standard sizes in standard compounds, a distributor is usually the better route.

Can you make spliced O-rings for very large diameters?

Yes, from extruded cord joined into a ring. See silicone extrusion.
