Electronics-grade manufacturing · Enclosure seals

Electronics enclosure seals.

The seal around an electronics enclosure is often the last part designed and the first to cause problems. Getting it right early saves redesigns later.

The detail

Seals that suit plastic housings

Plastic enclosures flex between screws. A seal that's too firm leaves gaps between fixings; one that's too soft takes a set and stops sealing after a few seasons.

We look at screw spacing, wall stiffness and the closing force your fixings can apply, then propose a seal section and hardness that keeps contact all the way round.

How we run it

How we develop them

  1. Housing review

Screw spacing, stiffness and groove design.

  2. Section proposal

Seal section and hardness to suit the closing force.

  3. Fit trials

Samples fitted to your housings and tested.

  4. Production

Compression or LSR, depending on volume.

Questions

What people usually ask.

Can you help us pass an ingress test?

We can design and supply the seal and help diagnose failures. The test itself is usually done by you or a test house.

Should the seal be overmoulded onto the housing?

At higher volumes it can remove an assembly step. See substrate overmoulding.
